SUGGESTED LETTER:

Dear [MP],

Currently, there are no laws protecting voters from false or misleading claims made in political ads. This leaves voters vulnerable to misleading and incorrect information, undermining the integrity of our democratic process. These sorts of political advertisements can distort public perception on key issues, affecting the fairness of elections.

I urge you to support Zali Steggall OAM MP’s Ethical Political Advertising Code, which aims to set clear standards for truth and transparency in political advertising. This self-regulatory code would help ensure political campaigns are held accountable for the accuracy of their claims. Adopting such a code would protect voters from misinformation and ensure that political messaging is based on facts rather than distortion or exaggeration.

Supporting this code helps to restore public trust in the political system. When voters know they can rely on truthful political advertisements, they are more likely to engage in the democratic process and trust the integrity of the election. By supporting the Ethical Political Advertising Code, you would be contributing to a more honest and accountable political environment.

As your constituent, I ask that you publicly pledge support for the Ethical Political Advertising Code. In doing so, you are playing your part in safeguarding voters, improving the integrity of elections, and fostering a more transparent and trustworthy political climate.

Thank you for your attention to this crucial issue. I look forward to hearing your views on this matter and hope you will take a leadership role in supporting this important reform.
